This is a story I wrote combining Rainbow Brite with Edgar Allan Poe's story "The Masque of the Red Death".
The Masque of the Gray Murk The Gray Murk was a major problem all across Despite this, however, Rainbow Brite was happy. She, her friends the color kids, her horse Starlite, and her sprite Twink all lived their happy lives in the color palace. Its doors were closed and locked, so that nothing bad or scary could get in. Completely off their minds was the “Gray Murk”. After about a week of being closed in, they were all bored, so they decided to have a party. They all were pretty, cheerful costumes, and they played lots of games together. I should mention the odd fact that whenever the moon changed phases, at the exact time of the phase change everyone would stop the party for exactly ten seconds. They didn’t seem to know they were doing it, nor did they mention to each other anything about it. Rather, it just happened. I should also mention the rooms of the color palace in which their party was held in. They each were themed based on a different color, including the decorations and the paint on the walls. There was one room for each of the seven colors of the rainbow (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, violet), plus one. The eighth room was themed of three colors rather than one. Since those three colors were black, brown, and gray, no one ever went in there. And then at full moon, it became known that a scary looking figure was wondering about the color palace. He was short and plump, and was dressed in clothes that were black, brown, and gray (coincidentally, the same colors as the eighth room of the color palace). When Rainbow Brite found out about this, she decided to chase the figure. The figure ran through all the differently colored rooms, Rainbow Brite following, until at last they reached the eighth, colorless room. The figure turned to face Rainbow Brite, and although one might think this would have been the end of her happiness, something wondrous happened. A rainbow was shot out of her magic color belt, tied up the figure, and he disappeared. Now the Gray Murk was never a problem again, and kindness and colors and rainbows held dominance over all. |
